“There Are No Words To Adequately Express My Gratitude”
There are no words to adequately express my gratitude and appreciation for Guiding Light, it’s donors, Directors, administrators and support staff. There is no doubt in my mind that your recovery program not only saved my son’s life in the physical and immediate sense, but also gave him the opportunity and the tools that he needed to begin his life again. A life free of addiction, guilt, feelings of failure and inadequacy.
Through working the program and using the resources you provided, the support of counselors, meetings, his sponsor and his peers, he has a new awareness of himself, his spirituality, community and his own value. He has purpose, goals, humility, his self esteem and the confidence to move forward. He is also aware that as a recovering addict, he will need to continue to use all of the tools he has learned to maintain sobriety.
But your program doesn’t stop there. Through the Achieve Program (Goodwill Industries partnership), my son learned to think outside of the box in regards to his education and career planning. He gained skills in resume writing, interviewing and personal presentation of himself. He is now employed in a position that is both rewarding and challenging and that he is proud of.
Recently, he moved into Iron House, yet another very important aspect of your program. He felt that his success in maintaining his sobriety would be best served by a slow transition, staying close to the program, the accountability and the support of his comrades.
On the day Alex moved to Iron House, he went to visit his Grandfather who was terminally ill. They had always enjoyed a very close relationship and it was his Grandfather’s greatest wish to see his grandson break the bonds of addiction. They had some private time together and my father knew that Alex was sober and moving on in his life. His Grandfather passed away early the next morning knowing that his grandson was going to be OK.
At Alex’s Grandfather’s funeral, we asked that donations in lieu of flowers be made to Guiding Light. It is but a very small token of our family’s gratitude in the service you provide to God, the community and to the men like Alex.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you and God bless.
The Family of Alex F.
