Every man has his own story of how he came to Guiding Light. Many have been homeless for quite some time. Some have only recently found themselves out of work and about to be evicted from their homes. All who walk through our doors have an opportunity to get the help they need and become self-sufficient again.
Isaiah came to Guiding Light this past winter. He’d been unemployed for quite some time and fell behind on his rent and his roommates asked him to leave. He had nowhere to go since he was originally from St. Louis, Missouri. The thought of being homeless was a scary thought. “That’s when my Dad recommended Guiding Light’s Back to Work program”.
The Guiding Light Back to Work program provides a 90-day stay for men looking for stable employment. Through the financial support of our donors, we are able to provide shelter, food and other necessary items a man needs to work. Items such as steel toe boots, safety glasses, and work gloves.
Within one week in our Back to Work program, Isaiah found a full-time job at NK Manufacturing and immediately began saving 75% of his paycheck. “I just want to get back in to the house I was in and pay off the debt of my back rent,” he shares.
Isaiah is one of 600 individuals who have found full-time work through one of the Guiding Light programs in the last 12 months. These individuals are now renting their own space, paying bills, buying groceries, utilizing transportation; they are re-engaged and spending money in our community.
As Isaiah shared his story, he told us that he feels that God puts us in hard positions to make us stronger. “Guiding Light is a good example of God’s grace, and what makes God’s love so special is His grace. Guiding Light has provided me with a way to save money while having a safe place to stay at the same time. They kept me from being homeless and on the street.”
