Guiding Light to Host Third ‘Sober Bowl’ Watch Party for its Addiction Recovery Clients Sunday, Feb. 13
Get-togethers for the National Football League’s championship game often revolve around food and drinks as much as the sport itself, but that environment can be dangerous for people in recovery.
The drinking culture associated with the annual game can be a major trigger for those struggling with alcohol, whether someone has just started on a path to lifelong recoveryor has been sober for years.
That’s why Guiding Light Recovery, an intensive, drug and alcohol recovery program in Grand Rapids, will again host a sober watch party for its clients on Sunday, Feb. 13.
Now in its third year, the “Sober Bowl” will give men in recovery the opportunity to socialize in a safe, sober environment with an array of food and live music starting at4:30 p.m. before the game.
Clients have invited their family members and recovery sponsors to join them for the event. Masks will be required for all except when eating.
Guiding Light’s Sober Bowl will not be open to the public, but members of the media are invited to cover the experience and show it is possible to enjoy this American pastime without alcoholic beverages.
