Guiding Light Barbecues

There is a huge community of support that has grown around Guiding Light over the past decade. A network of advocates, former clients, volunteers, donors, countless others that have in one form or another been affected by the work that we do for the community at Guiding Light.

There are family members who have gotten their fathers, sons, and friends back through the Back to Work and Recovery programs. There are men and women we have helped to feed and provide warm clothing for. There are volunteers from congregations that have collaborated with us to organize donation drives for their respective flocks. And there are those throughout Grand Rapids that simply believe in our mission and what we do for the community.

Something we have been proud to be able to pull off as an organization over the years has been to show a little bit of appreciation for all of the support we get. With the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic it has been more difficult than we would like to be able to express our gratitude, but we are slowly trying to return to a “new” normal. Over the summer, Guiding Light has been able to resume throwing a few of our renowned barbecues. Over the weekend we held our most recent celebration with over 100 in attendance. It is, in our eyes, the least we can do to convey the gratitude we have for all of you. We plan on having more barbecues throughout the summer and fall, and everyone is welcome.

It is great to see a gradual return to normalcy. And it is great to see so many, from all walks of life, brought together in a community united by faith, good works, and compassion. Thank you, from all of us, to all of you who make everything we do at Guiding Light possible.
