48.7 million people in the U.S. struggled with substance use disorder in 2022 according to The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration of the federal government. That’s 17.3% of the country’s population. Think of 20 individuals who you know: neighbors, friends, coworkers, family members, and even the person next to at church. Statistically, 3-4 of them are struggling with substance use. When people have issues with alcohol, prescription painkillers, or drugs, they know they should stop using. They know these things are causing problems in their life. They know it’s affecting who they are and how they show up for their families, but they can’t seem to stop.
Addiction doesn’t discriminate based on economic status, gender, race, affluence, or reputation. It’s not often obvious until people’s lives collapse. It affects us all. Usually when people come to us, they’ve lost everything. They’ve lost their job after being an unreliable employee. They’ve lost relationships with their family after years of broken trust. They’ve lost their health after decades of using puts their bodies at risk.
At Guiding Light Recovery, we’re on a mission to help those facing chronic addiction. We provide the essentials—hot meals, a safe place to sleep, clean clothes, and support—but that’s just the start. With your help, we’re creating a path to true transformation.
We offer more than basic needs. We help individuals rebuild their lives from the ground up: finding sobriety, reconnecting with loved ones, getting stable jobs, securing safe housing, and discovering a sense of purpose. Through your generosity, men and women can go from feeling hopeless to experiencing a life full of freedom, faith, and community.
Every person deserves a second chance. Together, we can make that happen.
