Our story

Giving with Purpose

You can support us in many different ways!

Thank you for wanting to partner with us! It is because of the faithful and generous investment of time, talent, and treasure of our community that miracles happen here.

Guiding Light believes in reciprocal work, meaning clients on the receiving end of your generosity are also responsible for the upkeep, daily maintenance, and security of the 255 S Division facility. We believe part of living differently in this world is learning to have a heart of service. When volunteer opportunities do become available, we will post an announcement on Facebook and send out a call-to-action email.

One of the best ways to extend your impact into a legacy is to consider including Guiding Light in your planned giving. We partner with the Barnabas Foundation, and would be glad to talk with you about this.

Cash donations give Guiding Light the most flexibility, but there are certain items that our men and women always need. Please view the list below for current needs.

Every winter we seek our community’s help to collect cold weather necessities for those experiencing homelessness and poverty. Please view the list below for current needs.

Guiding Light will gladly accept cold-weather donations M-F between 7am and 7PM. For questions related to donations, please call Mark at (616)451-0236 x105.

Current Needs

Guiding Light is in need of donations for men and women. Donated items listed below MUST be new and delivered to the front door (not the side parking lot).  Any extra donated items will be shared with other Heartside neighborhood organizations and ministries. We always welcome pre-loved business attire for men and women that is in excellent condition for clients starting their job search.
