Our story
Giving with Purpose
Move men and women from death to life!
It is because of the faithful and generous investment of time, talent, and treasure of our community members like YOU that miracles happen here.
Men and women who come to Guiding Light are at rock-bottom and need all the basics (warm meals, clean beds, hot showers). Once basic needs are addressed, the real work can start. And that work is the movement from self to God, from fear to love, from isolation to community, from darkness to light, from death to life.
Guiding Light believes in developing hearts of service and responsibility. Participants on the receiving end of your generosity are responsible for the upkeep, daily maintenance, and security of the 255 S Division facility. We believe part of living differently in this world is hard work, responsibility, and service. When volunteer opportunities do become available, we will post an announcement on Facebook and send out a call-to-action email.
Help for today is crucial, and help for tomorrow is needed too: One of the best ways to extend your impact into a legacy is to consider including Guiding Light in your planned giving. We partner with the Barnabas Foundation, and would be glad to talk with you about this.
Financial donations provide Guiding Light the means to keep the lights on, the gas cookin’, and the water flowing, but there are certain items that our men and women always need. Please view the list below for current needs.
Every winter we seek our community’s help to collect cold weather necessities for those experiencing homelessness and poverty. Guiding Light will gladly accept cold-weather donations M-F between 7am and 7PM. For questions related to donations, please call Mark at (616)451-0236 x105.
Advocate for Guiding Light! We need your voice!
