Guiding Light Board Names John C. Harrington as Chair

Guiding Light has named John C. Harrington chair of its board of directors.

Harrington brings more than 40 years of experience in bank management, executive leadership and business consulting in a number of industries to his new role. As director and principal of Harrington Associates LLC and Harrington & Kieft LLC, his experience in aligning stakeholders, building partnerships and facilitating solutions will be an asset to Guiding Light.  

While skilled in financial management, analytical thinking and strategic planning, Harrington also is dedicated to the principles of service, mentoring and human development. As a member of the recovery community, Harrington is especially passionate about helping those affected by addiction, which led him to begin serving on Guiding Light’s board in 2017.

Prior to launching his own consulting firm, Harrington served in a variety of roles for West Michigan banks, including Union Bank and Trust Co., First Michigan Bank, which is now Huntington Bank, and Select Bank. He also had leadership roles at DWH, LLC, International Profit Associates and Enhanced Management Resources, Ltd.

Harrington has served on the boards of the Refugee Education Center, Living Water, Economic Development Foundation and YMCA Camp Manitou-lin. He was a founding director of Grand Rapids Opportunities for Women. He has also volunteered and servedon committees with YWCA West Central Michigan, Heart of West Michigan United Way, Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce, American Heart Association and Early Childhood Education Program.

Harrington holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a minor in economics from Central Michigan University. He is a graduate of Leadership Grand Rapids.
