Guiding Light Welcomes Kyle Kunnen to Board of Directors

Kyle Kunnen, a senior vice president and information security officer at Mercantile Bank, has joined Guiding Light’s board of directors.

Kunnen has worked in the finance industry for more than 25 years and brings significantexperience to the nonprofit board as a leader and volunteer for several faith-based and nonprofit organizations. He will serve a three-year term on the board.

“Through both his professional and personal endeavors, Kyle leads with compassion and transparency and demonstrates values that align with those of Guiding Light,” said Brian Elve, executive director of Guiding Light. “We are excited to welcome him to our board and believe hisstrong faith and solid board experience will be valuable assets to our organization and those we serve.”

In his career with Mercantile Bank, Kunnen specializes in information security, business continuity and incident response. He is also a member of several professional organizations including Michigan Bankers Association, Information Systems Audit and Control Association and Michigan Infraguard.

Kunnen is active in his faith through his church and community organizations. He previously served as a deacon at Fairway Christian Reformed Church, where he had the opportunity to connect with several men from Guiding Light and hear their stories. This experience would later prompt him to serve the organization directly.

“I am honored to take on a role with an organization I have admired for so long,” Kunnen said. “God has been very instrumental in guiding me throughout my life, and I feel He has led me to Guiding Light as the next place to serve Him. I am excited to support Guiding Light’s mission and serve the communities who use its critical services through this opportunity.”

Kunnen has served on several local boards, including the Jenison Christian Foundation, Love INC and Starlight Ministries. He was the president of the Starlight Ministries Board for most of his six years with the organization.

Kunnen earned his bachelor’s degree from Grand Valley State University with a concentration in accounting and computer applications. He went on to complete three years at the Graduate School of Banking in Colorado and became certified as an information security manager andinformation security professional. He is also certified in risk and information security control.
