By not soliciting or taking government money, Guiding Light is completely reliant on the generosity of this community – people like YOU – to make food, shelter, and HOPE available to those struggling with chronic addiction.
Why do we do this? You probably know that government grants – from local, state, or federal sources – come with a lot of strings attached and dictate much of what services can or must be provided to receive the grant money. There are time frames involved, boxes to tick,…which is fine if you’re dealing with a project…but a human being? Deep internal change to live life in a completely different way? It’s not something that can happen in 14-30 days.
Because you fund these transformational programs, and not insurance or government grants, we are able to hold our clients to high and rigorous standards. We’re not worried about keeping beds full and can react appropriately with clients who present us with unacceptable behavior. We can be faithful stewards of the resources you provide us without beholding to institutional or unrealistic standards.
Through you, Guiding Light can invest deeply in individuals. We walk alongside people for not days or weeks, but months and YEARS. We play the long game. And we can only do that because we have the freedom to be innovative, rigorous, and individualized. BECAUSE OF YOU.
