SHOW UP For Those That Need Us

These seven men moved to Iron House in December 2023, they have a 78% chance of staying sober over a year.

“Do not forsake the assembling of ourselves together, as is the habit of some, but exhort and encourage one another especially as you see the day drawing near.” Heb 10.25

One of the most basic responsibilities of any relationship is that we SHOW UP when we are supposed to. Children expect to see Mom or Dad in the audience at the school play. Parents expect their sons and daughters to come home for holidays. Our employers expect us to show up for work.

A life of addiction throws these expectations out the window. The result is a lot of emotional pain on all sides. Missed birthdays. Ruined holidays. Family arguments. Lost jobs and broken relationships.

The men and women we serve are all too familiar with the disappointment, shame and regret that comes with not showing up.

That’s why one of the most important values we teach is the need to SHOW UP in life. Because presence is power. Showing up creates possibility and changes everything. It opens the door to miracles.

The holiday season is full of opportunities to show up, to be fully present, sober, awake and ready to embrace family, friends and faith.

This is what the 100%-donor-supported work of Guiding Light makes possible — the joyful reunion of fathers, mothers, sons and daughters who show up for each other.

The men and women in our care are working hard on this value. They have deep and humble gratitude for the donors who never let them down.

Will you show up for them? By donating to Guiding Light, you send a clear message that they are never forsaken, that it’s never too late for any of God’s children.

Thank you for your faith in them.
