A quote Sam loves:
“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.“
What Sam does at Guiding Light:
I provide guidance for the program participants in one-on-one interviews, devotionals, house meetings and class sessions so that they may learn to truly live a different way from the past, and become prepared to live a prosperous life in recovery.
Favorite part of the job:
Having the opportunity to do for the participants what the staff at Guiding Light did for me.
Freetime fun:
Practicing my musical instruments, learning to record music in a noise-sensitive environment, and learning music theory on my keyboard. In warmer weather, I love biking, especially around downtown Grand Rapids and Millenium Park.
Favorite Guiding Light experiences:
Having my life coach show me my intake picture after 60 days in the program and saying: “If you don’t think small, consistent action adds up, then tell me you recognize the guy in this photo…because I don’t.”
Favorite GLR lunch question:
“What is something you’ve never done before, but you know would be beneficial to your life?”
Favorite place to eat:
76th Street Truck Stop Diner. Close to home, excellent food, and excellent staff.
Adjectives that describe Sam:
Committed, trustworthy, adaptable, loyal.
One of Sam’s quirky loves:
If I had to name just one thing from Japan that I loved most, it would be their Rock and Metal scene (my go-to bands are RadWimps and Wagakki Band).
