Guiding Light Hires David Madiol as Development and Communications Director

Longtime Local Business Leader to Help Guiding Light Meet Growing Demand.

Guiding Light, a longtime Grand Rapids non-profit, has hired David Madiol as their new Development and Communications Director. In this role, Madiol will develop and lead strategy and action plans to sustain and increase the donor base for Guiding Light programming. Madiol will also oversee the organization’s marketing and communications efforts and ensure that they accurately reflect the services Guiding Light provides and how those programs benefit the community.

Madiol comes to Guiding Light after more than 26 years with Amway, most recently as the international company’s Head of Global Corporate Social Responsibility & West Michigan Community Relations. Madiol brings a robust history of building relationships with stakeholders, organizations and key members of the community to his new role, which Guiding Light leaders say makes him the right person at the right time.

“Guiding Light is looking to build on the success of our current programs and David is the perfect person to help us do that,” said Brian Elve, Guiding Light Executive Director. “His management and community experience will help us both raise the funds needed for additional programming and help us share our story of the help we provide.”

“I am thrilled to join the great team at Guiding Light and help support the important work we are doing to help men recover and re-engage with the community,” said David Madiol, Guiding Light Development and Communications Director. “Guiding Light’s services are needed now more than ever and I’m eager to do my part to help us grow.”

Over the past decade, Guiding Light has shifted from its roots as a traditional shelter to a program-based organization that walks alongside individuals to fulfill their God-given dignity and potential. The nonprofit’s programs include:

• Recovery, an intensive drug and alcohol treatment program that combines evidence-based practices, life coaches, therapy, support groups, spiritual direction and resources to equip men to build lives worth staying sober for.

• Iron House, a sober-living community and Guiding Light social enterprise that provides a safe and secure environment with continuing support for men who complete the Foundations portion of Recovery.

Madiol is a graduate of Western Michigan University. He started in his new role in early July.
