This Mother’s Day, Barb isn’t focused on getting flowers or candy or even a card. It’s enough that her son Mark is alive, a gift that five years ago seemed nearly out of reach.

On Friday, Allen attended his last house-meeting as a resident of Guiding Light’s facility in downtown Grand Rapids’ Heartside neighborhood.

On Saturday, Iron House residents and former Guiding Light Recovery clients Jimmy and Kevin packed their belongings for the next step in their journey, moving to their own place.

Years of drinking and drug addiction had led Javier away from his family, his relationship with God, and from his home in southern California.

On Friday, clients from the Guiding Light Recovery program had a chance to visit Iron House, our sober living apartment complex in Kentwood.

Thanks to Guiding Light, Javier has a strong foundation with a lot of the focus points – willingness, honesty, self-compassion.

Hank spent his first four months here devoting his time and energy to his sobriety, and learning how and where he would go from here.

Since 2010, Guiding Light has been removing negative words like “broken” from its values and messaging to better foster a constructive community of faith.
